Lab-Grown Diamonds

Yes! Lab‑grown diamonds are real diamonds. Mined diamonds are also real, but they are often produced unethically and unsustainably. Lab‑grown diamonds are real, ethically sourced, conflict‑free and sustainable

The stones do not differ; they are chemically, physically and optically identical. The environmental savings of lab‑grown diamonds, however, are significant. Mined diamonds require 125 pounds of carbon to create one carat, while lab‑grown diamonds require only 6 pounds. Air emissions for a single carat of mined diamond are 1.5 billion times higher than those of a lab‑grown diamond

The two most common ways of growing lab‑grown diamonds are the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) process and the HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature) process. For the CVD process, diamonds start from a “seed” placed in a chamber filled with carbon‑rich gas; under high temperatures, the gas bonds with the seed atom by atom. HPHT is similar to CVD, with slight differences in method, but it produces diamonds of high fidelity and purity

Yes, absolutely. They are real, pure diamonds with the same chemical and physical properties as mined diamonds.

It varies, but generally a lab‑grown diamond is about 30 % less expensive than a mined diamond. Fewer people are involved in managing, shipping and producing a lab‑grown diamond, so the advantages are price and sustainability.

Yes. All of our diamonds larger than 0.75  carat are certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI)

Mined diamonds require 125 pounds of carbon to create one carat, whereas lab‑grown diamonds require only 6 pounds. Air emissions for a single carat of mined diamond are 1.5 billion times higher than those of a lab‑grown diamond. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, lab‑grown diamonds are more ethical because they are made in a lab without harming humans or displacing communities.

Diamonds last more than one lifetime. With the same chemical composition, crystal structure and physical properties as a mined diamond, a lab‑grown diamond also lasts forever.

An uncut diamond—whether created in a lab or mined—consists of pure carbon in a clear and colorless crystal form. Moissanite is quite different from a real diamond; it is considered a diamond simulant and differs significantly in durability, brilliance and color. Cubic zirconia is an inexpensive, synthetic gemstone made from zirconium dioxide. Unlike diamonds or colored gemstones, cubic zirconia will not hold up well over time

Gemstones

For our Toi et Moi Birthstone Collection, we use a mix of natural and lab‑created gemstones. Many of our stones—such as peridot, garnet and London blue topaz—are naturally sourced, while others like emerald, ruby and pink sapphire are lab‑created. We made this decision to balance beauty, quality and price while ensuring accessibility for everyone. However, if you prefer a ring with all‑natural gemstones, we can accommodate that; just keep in mind that the cost will be higher because natural gemstones are more expensive. If you’re interested in customizing your piece with all‑natural stones, feel free to reach out—we’d love to create something special for you!

For our Toi et Moi Birthstone Collection, here’s a breakdown of which stones are natural and which are lab‑created:

  • Natural genuine stones: garnet, morganite, amethyst, aquamarine, white topaz, moonstone, peridot, citrine, London blue topaz and onyx.
  • Lab‑created stones: emerald, ruby and sapphire.

Natural gemstones are minerals formed over millions of years through natural geological processes. They are mined from the earth and are valued for their rarity and unique characteristics. Lab‑created gemstones (also known as lab‑grown or man‑made gemstones) are produced in controlled laboratory environments that replicate the conditions under which gemstones form. Chemically and physically, they are identical to their natural counterparts but are typically more affordable due to their availability.

Our expert team will professionally clean, inspect, and polish your piece so it looks as radiant as the day you received it. We check for loose stones, refresh the shine, and ensure your jewelry is in excellent condition.

We recommend professional cleaning once or twice a year, depending on how often you wear your piece. Regular cleaning helps maintain brilliance and longevity.

Jewelry Care

Use a soft toothbrush, warm, mild soapy water and a soft lint‑free cloth. Gently brush the jewelry with the toothbrush while dipping it into the soapy water occasionally, then use a lint‑free cloth to dry the jewelry. Be aware that some jewelry stores offer ultrasonic or steam cleaning; those machines can shake stones loose from their mounting or harm the filling of fracture‑filled stones. We offer a complimentary cleaning once a year, so we advise you to connect with us to schedule the cleaning ahead of time.

When wearing our products, please do so with respect for the pieces. Consider the fragility of the jewelry at all times. We recommend removing your jewelry before activities that could harm it. Chlorine bleach can pit gold alloys. We advise taking off your jewelry before pool time.

Most gemstones benefit from a soak in warm, mild soapy water for 10–15 minutes, followed by gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint‑free cloth. But beware—not all gemstones are created equal.

Steer clear of these enemies of sparkle:

  • Heat and sudden temperature changes: hot water, steam cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners can crack sensitive stones.
  • Harsh chemicals: ammonia, chlorine, bleach and harsh detergents can etch, discolor or dull your gems.
  • Abrasive materials: no rough cloths, brushes or sponges—these will scratch the surface.
  • Unsuitable ultrasonic cleaners: avoid those cleaners for our gems.

Gold

We offer 14 K and 18 K recycled gold for all of our jewelry.

The carat indicates the gold content of a piece of jewellery and is often given in percentages. Eighteen carats, for example, correspond to 750 parts—meaning that out of 1 000 parts, 750 are pure fine gold. The remaining parts vary depending on the desired colour shade. The smaller the fineness number (750, 585, etc.), the less gold is contained in the alloy. In Switzerland, the Precious Metals Control specifies which alloys are permissible and how a piece of jewelry must be marked (stamped).

  • 24‑carat gold: 999 gold = 99.9 % fine gold (too soft for jewelry).
  • 22‑carat gold: 916 gold = 91.6 % fine gold (too soft for jewelry).
  • 18‑carat gold: 750 gold = 75 % fine gold and 25 % silver/copper.
  • 14‑carat gold: 585 gold = 58.5 % fine gold and 41.5 % silver/copper.
  • 9‑carat gold: 375 gold = 37.5 % fine gold and 62.5 % silver/copper/zinc/tin.

Fourteen‑karat gold jewelry is popular for everyday wear due to its durability; however, over time it can wear off because gold is naturally soft. Regular cleaning and polishing help keep the jewelry looking its best. Additionally, taking off the jewelry when showering, exercising and engaging in other activities can help keep it looking new longer.

Recycled gold is a sustainable option for gold jewelry that is becoming increasingly popular. It is made by melting down existing jewelry and reusing it in new pieces. This reduces the amount of gold that needs to be mined, making it more environmentally friendly than mining for new gold. Recycled gold is of the same quality as new gold and is often more affordable. It is also a great way to give old jewelry a new life and make something beautiful out of something that would otherwise be discarded.
