What the custom jewelry design process looks like

Every piece at Juwels & Co. starts with a conversation, not a catalog. You share your idea — a feeling, a photo, a stone you already have — and we figure out the rest together. There is no automated design tool and no template. Julia works directly with you through every decision.

The process typically takes 6 to 10 weeks from first conversation to delivery, depending on the complexity of the design and any stone sourcing involved.

Working with a private jewelry designer

Julia personally responds to every inquiry and leads each design. You will work with the same person from the first form submission through CAD approval, stone selection, and final delivery. This is not a large studio with rotating staff — it is a small practice run by designers who care about getting the piece exactly right.

Custom ring design: what to expect

Custom rings are one of the most common requests, and also the most personal. Whether you are designing an engagement ring, a birthstone ring, or a one-of-a-kind stacking piece, the starting point is always the same: we talk about what matters to you. Budget, metal, stone shape, setting style, how you wear your hands — all of it informs the design. We do not start sketching until we understand the brief.

Can I use an existing or heirloom stone?

Yes. We work with stones you already own regularly. Heirloom diamonds, inherited pieces you want reset, or a stone you sourced yourself — all are welcome. We assess the stone during the design phase and build the setting around it.

Timeline and budget for custom jewelry

Most custom pieces fall between $1,500 and $10,000 depending on material, stone selection, and complexity. We discuss budget early — there is no commitment until you approve the design and the final quote. The production timeline after approval is typically 3 to 5 weeks, with the piece handcrafted in our Los Angeles studio in solid 14k gold or platinum.

custom rings at juwels & co start at $2,000 and typically range up to $7,000, depending on the design, metal, and stones. julia will give you a clear quote before any work begins — no surprises. we also offer payment plans through Klarna.

How long does it take to design your own ring?

6–10 weeks from design approval to delivery. if you have a specific date in mind — a proposal, an anniversary, a birthday — let julia know upfront and we'll do our best to work around it.

What if I don't know exactly what I want?

most clients don't — and that's completely fine. a photo you saved, a feeling you're after, a stone you love — that's enough to start. julia helps you find the design from there. the first conversation is just that: a conversation.

Can I transform or repurpose an existing piece?

yes. if you have an heirloom, a stone you love, or a ring you want to reimagine, we can work with what you have. share it in the form and julia will tell you exactly what's possible.

Do you make custom birthstone rings?

yes. we can create a custom birthstone ring entirely to your design — stone, setting, metal, everything. if you're looking for something more immediate, we also have our ready-made toi et moi birthstone collection, handcrafted in solid 14k gold or platinum.

What happens after I fill out the form?

julia reads every form personally. she'll reach out — by text, call, or email, whichever you chose — within 24 hours. from there, you'll talk through your vision together, receive a hand sketch, then a full CAD design for your approval. nothing goes into production until you sign off.
